About Eric Luker

I was the kid that unscrewed the CD player and took it to bits trying to figure out what broke and how to fix it. An early passion for deconstructing, troubleshooting and improvement has led me to the joy that comes from learning and creating. During my 11+ years of developing medical and nursery products in the US and China I have managed small teams of engineers to take multiple projects from sketch to production. Frequent use of Solidworks, prototyping, FEA, FMEA, and collaborative design reviews have been invaluable to ensure that products are robust, aesthetically pleasing, within cost and meet the expectations of stakeholders. Working directly with Chinese suppliers in their language I have been able to efficiently communicate designs and receive feedback without the additional challenges that come from a language barrier. Working in a manufacturing environment with injection molding, die casting, aluminum tubing extrusions, bent plywood and many others has helped me understand supplier capabilities and allowed me to design for manufacturing and assembly while maintaining a high level of product quality. What I love about product development is that there is always something new to try and learn. Each person on the team—a manager, a coworker, a supplier or an assembly line worker—all have something to contribute and teach. Each come with a unique perspective that can enhance the product that we are trying to create. Working with others in a way that inspires engagement is the key to a good product and the true mark of success.
