As a Senior Legal Advisor – Equity Investments at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), I focus on structuring, negotiating, and executing equity investments that drive economic growth and infrastructure development. My role involves advising on fund formations, investment governance, and regulatory compliance, ensuring optimal legal and commercial outcomes for DBSA’s strategic initiatives.Previously, I was a Senior Associate in the Investment Funds practice at Webber Wentzel, where I advised local and international clients on the establishment, structuring, and regulation of private equity, hedge, and alternative investment funds. I assisted fund managers with structuring investment vehicles, negotiating fund documentation, and optimizing tax efficiency for carry structures. Additionally, I advised both general partners and limited partners in fund negotiations and helped launch investment vehicles such as permanent capital structures and en commandite partnerships.Before that, I worked as an Associate in the Corporate Funds and Asset Management team at Herbert Smith Freehills in London, gaining extensive experience in fund formation, fundraising, and cross-border transactions. My background also includes roles in Financial Regulatory and Investment Funds at Webber Wentzel, where I was involved in high-profile fund structuring and regulatory matters.I hold an LLM in Banking Law from the University of Pretoria, with a focus on financial markets and regulation. Additionally, I have a BCom and LLB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and am a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.
