About Eric Olden

Eric is currently a R&D Engineer for The Chemours Company, working with the Nafion fluoropolymer team to develop improvements in membranes and catalysts for their fuel cell and water electrolysis processes. There, he has lead efforts such as development of a lab scale Nafion polymer precursor synthesis process, as well as implementation of a more efficient membrane dispersion/catalyst ink milling technique for improved chemical performance. In addition to his full-time experience, he also interned for Chemours during the summer of 2022 as a Lubrications Engineering Intern; in this role, he analyzed and determined the efficiencies of various Chemours oils and greases through studying their viscometric and rheometric properties. Eric is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, majoring in Chemical Engineering and minoring in Engineering Leadership Development. At Penn State, he was head mentor of the Engineering Orientation Network (EON), which works with incoming first-year and transfer engineering students to help them adjust to the university. He was also a member of both the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and Omega Chi Epsilon (honors chemical engineering professional organization). His other leadership experiences included serving as Treasurer of the Penn State Club Track & Field team for two years, as well as earning his Eagle Scout rank. Various undergraduate projects that Eric has undertook includes designing a large-scale chlor-alkali processing plant and integrating design techniques to scale up the production of 2-PEA from spent coffee grounds and tea leaf residue.
