About Eric Olson-Getty

Eric Olson-Getty is the Director of Programs at Virginia Organizing. Virginia Organizing is a non-partisan statewide grassroots organization dedicated to challenging injustice by empowering people in local communities to address issues that affect the quality of their lives. Virginia Organizing also provides fiscal sponsorship to over 40 organizations through it's Joint Plan of Work program, which Eric oversees. These organizations work on a diverse range of issues, including environmental justice, direct service and mutual aid, and organizing and advocacy. Prior to working at Virginia Organizing Eric worked for 6-years at Our Community Place (OCP), a nonprofit community center in Harrisonburg, VA. OCP is a community center and day shelter that is dedicated to creating an atmosphere where all are treated with dignity and respect, and where anyone in the world is welcome to help or participate. Prior to moving to Harrisonburg, Eric worked with a youth program in Durham, NC called YO:Durham beginning in 2008, when he came on board as an intern through Public Allies, a year-long non-profit leadership development program that is part of Americorps. Eric holds an M.Div from Duke University Divinity School, where he graduated summa cum laude. He received his B.A. from Williams College in 2002, and was extensively involved in community development work in Springfield, MA prior to moving to Durham in 2005. Eric also received the Duke University Certificate in Nonprofit Management in 2014. Eric is interested in nonprofit leadership, social change, and community organizing, and plays saxophone on the side. Specialties: Youth outreach and intervention, volunteer recruitment and management, grant writing and fund development, nonprofit community outreach, workforce development. Also an accomplished jazz saxophonist and percussionist.
