Background
About Eric Parajon
I am a data-driven political scientist and policy analyst with a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, specializing in climate policy, public opinion, and U.S. energy market reform. My career began at the TRIP Project, where I developed survey expertise, grant management skills, and a strong foundation in data science. During my Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina, I deepened my quantitative methods expertise and gained advanced domain knowledge of climate policy and public opinion, producing peer-reviewed research in high impact journals (e.g. International Studies Quarterly, Political Research Quarterly), and public-facing commentary (e.g. Foreign Policy, Washington Post). Now, I apply those skills to real-world energy and climate policy challenges as an Energy & Climate Policy Analyst at Duke University’s Nicholas Institute, where I design interactive dashboards, lead grant-funded policy analysis, and engage stakeholders to inform regulatory reform to strengthen competitiveness in the power sector. Through my academic and professional experience, I've developed strengths in an array of areas including: • Data Science and Statistical Analysis: R (Tidyverse, Shiny), SQL, Python, Stata, Tableau • Survey Design and Experimental Research: Public opinion, randomized experiments, conjoint designs • Policy Analysis and Evaluation: Electricity market reform, Climate finance, policy framing • Grant and Project Management: Leading interdisciplinary research projects, securing funding, managing grantsI’m passionate about using data-backed research to address pressing global challenges, bridging rigorous analysis with real-world policy impact.
