About Eric Richards

Have been involved in the traffic industry for over 20 years. Began my career in 2003 when I joined the United States Army where I served as a radio operator and satellite maintainer. I was responsible for providing and managing communications and information systems support for the command and control of combined arms forces. This included all aspects of designing, installing, maintaining, and managing information networks to include communications links, computers, and other components of local and wide area networks. In 2007, I joined The City of Alpharetta Traffic Department as a traffic signal technician where I was responsible for Installing, maintaining, repairing and upgrading traffic signals, street lights and other related electrical and electronic equipment; exercise technical supervision over less experienced staff. In March of 2011, I went to work for Southern Lighting and Traffic Systems, an Econolite distributor for Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. I am employed as the Senior Technician and is responsible for all the repairs and maintenance of all equipment that Southern Lighting provides. I am also responsible for site surveys and training of all of Southern Lightings specialty product lines.I have worked with Econolite, Safetran, Intelight, Eagle, Naztec 2070N & 2070L controllers. I understand signal phasing, signal timing, and coordination. I have extensive knowledge of NEMA, 332, 336, and 337 cabinets. I understand intersection plans and cabinet schematics. I also have experience with video detection, radar detection, wireless communication, and master/local controller operation. Have experience with several forms and brands of intersection detection. I have excellent troubleshooting skills I am an associate member of ITE and IMSA. I'm IMSA Traffic Signal Level Senior Field Technician certified. And im certified in Autoscope installation and training. I am also a member of the Signal Corps of the United States.
