About Eric Schmitt

I have a diverse background in analytics based strategy, advisory and innovation as a leader and consultant. Since 2016, I am Director of R&D at Protix where I have worked with our teams to create one of the most innovative R&D departments in the insect industry. We have implemented leading solutions in software, genetics, nutrition and fundamental entomology. Our R&D organization is built around the principles of collaborative research and joint development of information and operational standards to support cumulative knowledge gain. Recently, our R&D organization has demonstrated success in licensing IP and serving partners. As part of this process, I have taken on more strategic partnership work and focus on improving the offering of the IP teams to partners. As part of our management, I have worked with Protix to raise >$100 million in equity to support our expansion and contributed to the successful founding of our JV with Tyson Foods in 2023. In the past, I have worked as an economic consultant for the finance and regulatory sectors. I have also worked for numerous industrial parties. Circa 2016, as Senior Statistician, I helped to initiate the California Data Collaborative, which has remained the most developed data integrator for water utilities in California. I have had the great fortune to collaborate with many excellent researchers on scientific articles over the years on a huge variety of topics. Finding ways to support diverse research with statistics and focused writing remains a great pleasure for me.
