About Eric Schoen

I am a mathematician with several years active experience as Instructor of Record in secondary education classrooms. After receiving my B.S. and M.S. in Applied Mathematics from Virginia Commonwealth University, I have held adjunct and term faculty positions at the same institution. In addition to serving as a private tutor for a number of individual students from all levels of primary and secondary academia, I have taught courses from applied algebra and precalculus through multivariable calculus and differential equations. My research interests have included geomorphology, developmental growth, and modeling biological systems. The time I have invested in tutoring, teaching, and mentoring undergraduate students has given me confidence in my ability to manage and coordinate courses and to collaborate successfully with other faculty members from a multitude of disciplines and backgrounds. I am comfortable composing lesson plans, writing and giving regular lectures, and preparing testing materials and other forms of student evaluation. While teaching has long been a passion, I am also comfortable working with many programming languages and mathematical modeling software, and have employed them successfully for a range of purposes from improving student performance to statistical analysis of biological systems. As an educator, I have always been eager to learn of new technologies and teaching methods to incorporate into my methodology. I have found that the same abilities which align with my dedication to meeting the needs of students from all walks of life readily translate into every collaborative work environment. As a researcher, I have practiced statistical inference on mathematical models of populations, infectious disease, computational neuroscience, biological morphology and developmental growth, as well as geomorphology, among others. I look forward to a long career demonstrating my dedication to science, education, research, and a passion for learning.
