About Eric Schultheis

My professional interests include (1) health policy, specifically, state and federal regulation of ACA health insurance markets, self-insurance under ERISA, and health care payment methodologies,(2) how data (quantitative, qualitative, longitudinal, and spatial) can support health policy advocacy and responsive policy decision-making,(3) the use of administrative data to inform non-profit and government operations, management, and program evaluation,(4) financial and spatial access to health care services,(5) health care affordability, and (5) advancing the interests of low- and middle-income health care consumers. I hold a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a JD from the University of Southern California, and a BA from Wesleyan University. I am a member of the Vermont Bar and am an inactive-status member of the California Bar. Prior to joining the Office of the Health Care Advocate, I was (1) a staff attorney and co-manager of the Race Equity Project, a special project of Legal Services of Northern California,(2) a doctoral researcher and student at MIT,(3) a Radcliffe/Rappaport Doctoral Policy fellow, and (4) a Policy and Technology Lab Fellow at the Cambridge Housing Authority.
