I love my job because I get to make my fellow engineers happier and more productive. And with each move toward the elusive DevOps goal of 100% optimization and efficiency, we’re improving the lives of millions of customers. As a former QA/Test Engineer with Fortune 100 experience in the pre-DevOps era, I know first-hand how frustrating it is to execute repeatable tasks ad nauseum. You could say I got my start in automation out of self-preservation. That, and the desire to find a way to do things better. Across the last 8 years, I’ve streamlined the build-test-release process for several high-growth start-ups, including Next Issue Media (now Apple News), Blackboard, and Little Passports. I’ve enjoyed building self-sustaining platforms from the ground up and replacing inflexible architecture with the latest in cloud/infrastructure-as-code technologies leveraging CI/CD, containerization, and Agile methods. I am constantly thinking about how we can eliminate wasteful processes, ultimately shifting companies from chronic quick fixes to longer-term solutions requiring thoughtful problem solving, diligent research, and well-planned migrations and implementations. I have the patience and the developer’s toolkit to figure out the root cause and vanquish problems, not just work around 12 years of expertise leading test automation for mobile, SaaS, and web solutions.
