About Eric Thelin

I am an IT-professional with twenty years of experience from a multitude of assignments and roles - Software Developer, Test Automation Lead, Team Lead, Technical Architect, Technical Product Owner and Quality Coach to name a few. Whatever the role, I always try to make things better, learn new things along the way and share whatever I know to the people around me. In one assignment I helped an organization to dramatically increase the rate of software delivery from a few times per year to multiple times per week. In another one I was the technical lead for a startup where we within one month delivered a working solution to a pilot customer and thereafter rolled out improvements on a daily basis with close to zero interruptions for the end users. This was despite having a team of mostly junior developers. In a third assignment I helped to reboot a company after financial reconstruction. I setup an agile software delivery process, onboarded team members, talked to customers and partners and drove the daily development work. A common thread throughout my career has been employing techniques for fast and high quality feedback in combination with an openness to change as new information arrives. Automated testing and deployments, Test-Driven Development, Specification by Example, Pair and Ensemble programming and close collaboration with teammates, business owners and customers are all prominent tools in my toolbox. On numerous occasions I have driven process changes and educational initiatives as facilitator, tutor, coach and colleague. I have experience from a wide range of industries including e-commerce, private aviation, manufacturing and payments. I have worked in large organizations with thousands of employees as well as in startups with just a handful of people where I was the sole developer. To stay informed and grow my skill set I follow interesting people on the internet and read the occasional book. Besides classics such as Refactoring and Test Driven Development by Example, one of my favorites are 99 Bottles of OOP by Sandi Metz. More recent additions to my library are Team Topologies and Modern Software Engineering. I am always open for opportunities to use my experience and interests in new ways. My ideal role is one where I can use both my technical expertise in software development and automation as well as my interest for helping people grow and organizations to focus on delivering value to end users.
