About Eric Wakeman

My story: Animal Welfare Official Turned Sofware Developer. I find joy in solving problems. I come from a background of customer service and animal care. At the Idaho Humane Society as an Animal Care Attendant, was a positive influence for our animals and clients. Apart from providing routine car, I contributed to the welfare of hundreds of animals. I excelled in connected with fearful animals and guiding them to trust new people, leading to them finding loving forever-homes. As an Animal Care and Control Officer I protect the public from animal related dangers, and protected animals from dangers of all kinds. I found success in not simply enforcing law by the book, but by finding creative solutions and resolving conflicts between animal owners in non-emergency situations. In responding to emergency calls, I learned to think quickly and anticipate potential roadblocks and conflicts before they happen, and guided the public and other Public Safety personnel accordingly. I dedicated over five years of my life to my passion of Animal Welfare. I learned and grew greatly as a person during my time at the Idaho Humane Society, but as my eyes looked towards the future the lack of work-life balance that I could achieve there could not support the life I dreamed of having. Which brings my to new Career as a software developer. Coding combines my love of helping others and creative problem solving, as well as utilizes my strengths in learning abstract patterns and concepts. I have found a new Passion in Software Development, and now I am aiming for a position that will allow to me utilize my new skills, continue to learn and grow, and will allow for work-life balance to allow me to invest time in starting a family in the future and enable me to be provider.
