About Erica Ortega

I have worked in nursing for 10+ years with John Peter Smith hospital. My relationship to the nursing field is ever changing as I've decided to advance my focus on mental health and I honestly haven't been happier. I pinch myself asking "why haven't I done this sooner?". My inspiration and story remains unique in my transition from the medical side to psychiatry and to be able to help others with a mental illness is rewarding in itself because our mental health steers us in our everyday decisions, goals, dreams, aspirations, and challenges. I have a rich foundation of experience and exposure from my work environment as well as my clinical rotations. I apply the tools I have learned from my academia, clinical experiences, and nursing to carry me forward with ongoing drive to make a wave of impact within our mental health communities and hopefully, some day in the near future-legislation.
