Background

About Erick Detweiler

J.D. Candidate at UNH Franklin Pierce School with 2.5 years of experience as a Patent Examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. My Art Unit was 3664, often prosecuting autonomous vehicle and robot patent applications. This gave me a particularly useful understanding of bringing "thinking machine" patents to allowance, helping attorneys overcome the challenges of 35 U.S.C. § 101. I am currently studying for the patent bar. MEE graduate from the University of Dayton with a background in management, engineering, and toy design. In 2020, I was an engineering co-op with Hasbro, where I ideated, developed, and presented 10 unique toys and games in 6 months. I was grateful for the opportunity to mix many unique skills with mechanical engineering such as machining, electronics, software, animation, aesthetic design, videography, and game design. I also produced work with SolidWorks at the highest level so far in my career. One such project resulted in an original animatronic character, programmed to emote, dance, and act synchronously with audio. In 2018, I was employed by a government contractor, UES, where I worked with a team to solve engineering problems. I created 3D models using SolidWorks according to specifications and gained experience with rapid prototyping in a workshop environment. I was a Camp Counselor at Chief Logan Reservation's summer camp program for four years. During this time I have positively impacted the lives of thousands of children ages ten to seventeen. As the STEM Area Director, I brought to life a new program at CLR, known as the STEM Area. In order to do this, I budgeted $2,500 for supplies, managed a team to teach children the Robotics, Inventing, and Game Design merit badges. I invented and facilitated popular weekly activities including original role-playing adventures, a LEGO robot demolition derby, and a unique trading card game.
