About Erik Ivanenko

Up until 1991, I worked as a Research Mathematician and software engineer. In 1991 I transitioned to employment at the University of Toronto (UT). I have amassed years of work experience at UoT as Manager of Controls and Technical services (CCMS) within the Department of Facilities and Services. I was responsible for the management of three unique unionized work divisions, CAW (operating engineers), IBEW (Control Technicians) and Steelworkers (Programmers). The base budget for these groups were (CAW/Steel) with a cost recovery component of (IBEW). I provided energy efficient building environmental controls to the St. George Campus via the Central Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) built in-house under my direction. The CCMS was strategically placed as an enterprise wide system, through the acceptance and enforcement of the UT controls standards for capital projects, as written by myself. I was responsible for the review of control drawings for capital projects for conformance to standards and error. Eight million square feet of the St. George Campus at UT were under CCMS control. All aspects of this software/hardware project were under my control. By building this system in house, a projected 80% savings of a $20 million retrofit was realized. I have been involved in the creation of RFPs, evaluation of bids, Co-chaired the Joint Health and Safety Committed, evaluation of controls drawings. I have received the Innovation Award from the UoT for my work on the Sustainability Kiosk: an interactive device installed in the lobby of 256 McCaul that presented real-time and historical energy use data, as well as details of sustainable projects implemented at UT.
