About Erika Cedillo

I am a passionate, committed, empathetic, reliable, and compassionate legal professional and researcher. My legal research has focused on bringing a pluralistic perspective to the implementation of international standards in local legal systems. My doctoral dissertation examined the local interpretation of the concept of public policy in the Mexican legal context when applied to the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. I am interested in disseminating the results of my research for enhancing the relationships among international trade actors. After 7 years of collaboration in the Asia Pacific Dispute Resolution Project "Understanding Coordinated Compliance with International Trade and Human Rights Standards in Comparative Perspective", I developed strong research, writing, editing, publishing, and effective communication skills within a large research project involving academics from 5 different countries and diverse academic institutions. As a result of my work in the examination of the coordinated compliance between trade and human rights standards, I developed an interest in researching the implementation of the human right to education for children with extra needs within the BC public education system. As an advocate, I like to find and share resources with people in my community and empower them to advocate for their children. During the last 4 years, I have co-chaired the group Partners for Inclusive Education, creating a space for parents, educators, and professionals to learn together and support each other in the journey of caring for children with extra needs.
