About Erika Meyer

I am proud to be a School Principal at the Heilpädagogische Schule Oberaargau in Langenthal since August 2023. There are great people to meet and to work with. Would you like to join our thriving team. We are in the middle of a colourful, happy and eventful year. Currently I am undertaking specialization courses in school leadership (Diploma of Advanced Studies Schule Leiten) at Pädagogische Hochschule Bern. I recently completed my Certificate CAS ICT in der Schule. I am a specialist teacher with 25+ years experience in working with groups of children and individuals. I have attained my teaching qualification in Switzerland with emphasis on education for people with special needs as well as pre-school-age children. After my initial teaching diploma and working as a pre-school teacher for a period of one year I have moved into teaching children with special needs. While working as a class teacher in a specialized school for children with mental challenges I have attained my Fachhochschuldiplom in Schulischer Heilpädagogik and Master of Arts certification in 2004. I have enjoyed to have the full responsibility for the assigned class, the interdisciplinary cooperation with other teachers, parents and the freedom to develop educational plans according to the individual child’s abilities and needs. In 2007, my family moved to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Living and working abroad has its own challenges and lucky enough I was part of the Primary team in one of the best schools in the Middle East, at the British International School Jeddah as their Librarian. In Summer 2017, we moved back to Switzerland and I am happy to work as Special Needs Teacher in the canton Bern. I am responsible for two female students with special needs who are integrated in their regular classes in their home town. Thus, I am responsible for other students in 5th and 6th grade with certain needs in Maths, German and French while working closely with their class teacher. I am proud to support them in their growth to become independent and confident persons. I see my strengths in being independent, disciplined and well organized. As teacher, I am strong at observing, analyzing and subsequently deriving individualized educational plans. I enjoy working with small groups of children. And now I am happy to working with dedicated and open-minded teaching persons.
