About Erika Werner

I am a physician executive, maternal-fetal medicine specialist, and nationally recognized leader in academic medicine and health policy. As President of the Tufts Medical Center Physicians Organization and former Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology, I drive strategic growth, operational excellence, and innovative care delivery across Tufts Medicine and beyond.Over my career, I’ve led transformational turnarounds and built high-performing teams that advance patient care, research, and financial sustainability. At Tufts, I have been part of a $300M financial recovery, increased physician productivity from 29% to 62%, and elevated physician engagement. Nationally, I have served as Health Policy & Advocacy Chair for the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Principal Investigator on NIH-funded studies. My research focuses on gestational diabetes, maternal health outcomes, cost-effectiveness, and evidence-based care models, resulting in 150+ peer-reviewed publications, editorial roles for Management of Diabetes in Pregnancy (5th & 6th editions), and UpToDate’s Diabetes in Pregnancy section.My passion lies in transforming healthcare systems, fostering academic innovation, and designing sustainable models of care that improve patient outcomes while enhancing operational performance.
