About Erikca Brown
Erikca Brown is concerned with creating and maintaining equitable educational opportunities within k-12 and higher education environments. With 20 years of classroom experience she seeks to motivate students to become lifelong learners dedicated to making a difference in the world. Dr. Brown earned her doctorate in Education, emphasis in culture and learning, from Claremont Graduate University. Her study focused on schools as workplaces and the impact of organizational culture on the production of racial micro-aggressions as perceived by minority members of the organization. Dr. Browns research is concerned with the management and organization of schools; minority teacher recruitment and preparation; the supply, demand, shortages and turnover of minority teachers; and the induction and mentoring for minority teachers; as demonstrated by her interest in micro-aggressions, organizational culture, cultural competency, diversity and inclusion. In 2016 she co-author the chapter The Impact of Institutional Culture on Student Disengagement and Resistance to Learning In: A. Tolman and J. Kremling, Why Students Resist Learning: A Practical Model for Understanding and Helping Students (Stylus Publishing LLC, p. Dr. Brown has presented her research at state and national conferences, in-services, and workshops. In 2016 & 2017, she presented at AERA. In 2017 she contributed to the conversations at the Teacher Diversity Matters National Symposium on Preparing, Recruiting, and Retaining Teachers of Color at (NKU) and co-presented,"Do You Hear Us Now: Oral Histories of The Marginalized" at the OHA. Dr. Brown’s experience teaching in K-12, community college, and at the graduate level in teacher education and supervising and evaluating student and internship teachers in the field has prepared her to assume a position at the university level, educating teachers, as they ensure our students are college and career ready.
