About Erike Young

Erike Young is the Deputy General Manager for the California Intergovernmental Risk Authority (CIRA). CIRA is a statewide, risk sharing Joint Powers Authority (JPA) that provides comprehensive coverage to cities, towns and non-municipal public agencies through the state of California. CIRA operates with an exclusive staff whose only focus is this organization and its members. Erike joins CIRA with over 20 years of risk and safety management experience in both the public and private sector. Prior to joining CIRA, Erike served as Google’s Global Environmental Health and Safety Manager, supporting research and office operations in over 60 countries. Erike’s public entity experience includes over seven years with Bickmore Risk Services as a Senior Risk Control Consultant before joining the University of California, Office of the President as the systemwide Director of EHS. In addition to his risk and safety experience, Erike was elected to the El Dorado Union High School Board at the age of eighteen, and later was elected to the El Dorado County Board of Education and Rescue Union School District Board. Erike also served as the Chair for the US Technical Advisory Group for ISO – Risk Management. and Convenor for ISO TC 262 Workgroup 8 for Terminology. He has served as the past president of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Sacramento Chapter and was elected to the ASSP Board of Directors of ASSP. In 2012, he was recognized as the ASSP Edgar Monsanto Queeny Safety Professional of the Year. Erike is a Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and has earned the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation and completed the Enterprise Risk Management Certificated (ARM-E). He earned his Master in Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) from California State University, Sacramento and BA from the University of California, Davis. Erike also teaches the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) series of courses as part of the ARM Study Group.
