About Erin Mitchell

I am a Director and Senior Criminal Lawyer at Potts Lawyers, Queensland's largest private criminal defence law firm. I am based on the Gold Coast but I have practiced exclusively in criminal defence, traffic and domestic violence law as a solicitor-advocate across South-East Queensland. I graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/ Bachelor of Arts and from Bond University with a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. I love what I do – I am passionate about assisting my clients through the criminal justice system and ensuring they understand their options and have a voice, working towards the best outcome, so they can move forward with their lives. I am the Vice-President of the Gold Coast District Law Association after having served on the committee for a number of years. In my role, I look forward to supporting our President in making positive changes to the law and to support our profession. I am involved in organising a number of events and the GLAD (Gold Coast Lawyers Achieving Development) mentoring program - as I feel it is vital to a happy career to have friends in the profession. I'm delighted to have a seat on Griffith University's Innocence Project Executive Committee and Advisory Board as well as being a volunteer lawyer working with students. After all, the Innocence Project largely inspired my career in criminal law. I have previously volunteered as a solicitor at my local community legal centre for a number of years, having commenced shortly after it opened in 2014 and was previously a member of the RCLC Committee as Events Coordinator. I was honoured to be named as one of Australia’s Leading Criminal Law Rising Stars in 2017 by Doyle’s Guide to the Legal Profession; and again a Rising Star in Queensland in 2019, a Recommended Criminal Lawyer in 2020 and a Recommended DUI & Traffic in 2022 as well as a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards - Senior Associate of the Year category in 2018 and a finalist in the Mentor of the Year category in 2020. I look forward to continuing to assist my clients with care, professionalism and commitment to achieve the best possible outcome, guiding them through the process.
