About Erin Murphy

My name is Erin Murphy and I studied at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, graduating in May 2016 with honors, with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering with a concentration in Structures. I am a second year student at Columbia University, studying for my Masters of Science in Historic Preservation. My experiences as an undergraduate provided me with many opportunities for project work, teamwork, and leadership. I view myself as a highly creative and enthusiastic individual with a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn. Through my studies and related jobs in Architectural Engineering, I have gained a unique and well-rounded perspective of the requirements for design development. In the summer between my junior and senior year of college, I participated in Harvard University's Career Discovery program, which explored the role of architecture in society. For the past three years I have worked as an engineer at a building enclosure consulting firm, working with both new construction and existing buildings. I have simultaneously continued this work while pursuing my masters degree from Columbia University in Historic Preservation. With my degrees, I intend to focus on preservation engineering. In my career, I hope to explore how engineering and architecture can work together more cohesively to help preserve historic structures, and am interested in professional opportunities that will combine design with technology and engineering.
