Hello my name is Ernika Merilus and I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree for Human Resources at Barry University. I aspire to be a Human Resources manager. A Human Resources manager’s role is known to be an individual who will plan and direct the routine functions that include hiring, interviewing, administrating pay, enforcing company policies of an organization. They are the link between both management and the employees. This definition to me means a lot because an HR manager basically sets the foundation of the psychological well being of a workplace. As a black woman who has worked at many different retail companies, I’ve witnessed, jotted down, and lastly learned from my experiences when it comes to the foundation of a workplace and how an HR manager and management has treated the employees. I made a promise to myself that everything that I have seen and gone through would not go to waste however would aid me in my purpose in life which is to create a fair, safe, welcomed, satisfying workplace for ALL individuals but with a primary focus when it comes to the black community as our employment rates are low and poverty rates increasing.
