About Errin Mahan

I began working for Shawnee County Emergency Consolidated Communications Center as an emergency dispatcher in March of 1997. The Department was responsible for dispatching of Police, Sheriff, City and Rural fire units as well as all rural law enforcement agencies. In I joined the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office as a patrol officer and was eventually promoted to patrol supervisor in the Operations Division. After receiving several assignments in the field of emergency response planning and training, I was given an assignment as the Agency's Emergency Management Coordinator and Homeland Security Officer. I am formally a Kansas Certified Emergency Manager and a former member of the State of Kansas Instructor Cadre on Incident Command courses sponsored through the Kansas Department of Emergency Management. I also served on the Sheriff's Office Crisis/Hostage Negotiation Team. I served as an instructor to Hazardous Materials Response and Awareness for Law Enforcement, Improvised and Homemade Explosives Awareness and also instruct a course on Fair and Impartial Policing among other subjects. My goal is to one day finish an advanced education degree in emergency management and/or safety and security. I left the Sheriff's Office and Shawnee County in November 2016 after almost 18 years in law enforcement. I began with Shawnee County Emergency Management in January of 2017 as the interim training and exercise coordinator and then became full time as an emergency planner in 2018. I served as the Interim Director during the COVID-19 response for the Department from April of to May of 2021. I left that Department in August of 2021 to care for an elderly parent.
