About Erwan Chapelier

Passionate about new technology and innovation, I graduated in electronic engineering and followed the way in the intellectual property field by becoming a patent examiner during eight years. I dealt with the core business -examining the patents and doing prior art searches- and various other activities, such as the support of electronic filing at the patent department, or participation in the building of a European network of patent offices (EU financed iPorta project). I visited 12 patent offices in Europe and cooperated with the 28 EU patent office’s representatives, as well as EPO, WIPO and EUIPO. I graduated a Master of Intellectual Property in 2005 and later manage a team of examiners in the automotive and aeronautic field for a couple of years. In 2013, I became secretary for the committee coordinating the fight against counterfeiting in France. It is the place where representatives from the public sector and private sector meet to exchange good practices and make appropriate lobbying for the government and european institutions. I worked closely with industrial federations and public skateholders at this time and set up an anti counterfeiting awareness campaign targeting the public. Nowadays, this strong knowledge of intellectual property procedures and strategies let me act as an intellectual property expert. I work in cooperation with other institutions supporting enterprises (Business France, Chambers of Commerce, …), making consultancy to SMEs, to set intellectual property strategies in accordance with their business plan that will lead to a better use and valuation of their innovations and intangible assets. I integrated as my own credo that intellectual property and innovation make the perfect match to ensure favorable position on the market and I love explaining why and how to do it. In the future, I look forward to join the economic service of an embassy or an international company to leverage my experience at an international level.
