About Esli C.

Esli Chan is a researcher and PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science at McGill University. Her work focuses on gender issues and violence against women, extremism and right-wing politics, and technology and media studies. She is also interested in AI policy and platform governance. She is currently a doctoral fellow at the Media Ecosystem Observatory where she monitors digital information threats to the Canadian media landscape. She was previously a lecturer at McGill University, teaching a senior-level undergraduate course on Media and Politics. Her work on incel violence, extremism, and public policy issues related to gender development, has been published in Violence Against Women, International Studies Review, Harvard Women’s Policy Journal, and The Conversation. She is affiliated with the Center for International Peace and Security Studies (CIPSS) and her ongoing work is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). She has previously worked for the Government of Canada in the field of national security and foreign relations. She also holds a MSc in Risk Analysis from King’s College London.
