Background
About Estrela Matilde
In 2013, I undertook a 6-month challenge on a remote African island that ultimately became an 11-year journey, testing my resilience, adaptability, and leadership. For seven years, I led the country’s most active conservation NGO, building a 64-person team (98% local) and empowering a new generation of conservation leaders while protecting one of the world’s greatest biodiversity hotspots. In 2024, I passed leadership to a local successor, leaving behind a strong, independent organization. Today, I lead the oldest environmental NGO in the Iberian Peninsula, advancing conservation and sustainability in my home country with the same passion that fueled my journey abroad.
