About Ethan Baird

Throughout my career, my expectations have been challenged. When I left school, I knew that I wanted to be a computer programmer. I decided to study IT at the University of Pretoria, where I coincidentally joined TuksFM as a way to improve my skills at what was then my hobby - audio production. Fast forward 3 years: I dropped my degree and pursued radio full-time. At TuksFM I become the manager of multiple departments, won an MTN Radio Award, and knew that I was destined to be a technical producer in the radio industry. Next, my father and I stumbled across someone who wanted to start an LGBTQ+ radio station. I thought:"Whoah! This seems like an amazing idea! Why has nobody done this?" We decided to get involved. And by "involved" I mean,"my whole life got taken over by it". This technical producer had to quickly figure out program management, radio presenting, business development, and all of the details that form part of the world of radio management. My world-view was broadened, to say the least. Eventually, I moved on to focus on my own freelance podcasting business. Having honed my production skills even further (editing for and managing a radio station will do that to you), I figured that this would be my future. In fact, I knew it. Podcasting is the future and this is going to be my niche. Today, I have a very fluid idea of what I'm doing in my career. And it all boils down to one thing: Content. Producing amazing, high-quality content, no matter in what form. Obviously I can't do everything, as audio and video are my passion, therefore I need people to help me with the aspects that I'm not equipped for. Enter: Baird.Media My father, Hendrik, who is an insanely talented writer (amongst many other things), and I have started our own company, on our own terms, serving the kind of clients we adore. Nowadays, I spend most of my time editing and polishing people's video and podcast content, but with a very specific purpose. I want people to know that content production doesn't have to be a drag, and that podcasting is a brilliant tool for generating all the content you'll ever need. Record a podcast, get it transcribed, and bam! Your content team has something authentic and unique to work from. Blogs, graphics, social media videos, everything you need to get your message out there can be generated from just a few recording sessions. So yeah, I know now that my career trajectory is always going to surprise me, but that’s okay, because I'm loving every minute of it.
