About Ethan Fowler

After an enjoyable 21-year career in newspapers working as a reporter and editor in news, sports, features and education, I became a substitute teacher. In May 2021, I earned my state teaching certification in K-8 with K-12 Special Education endorsement following completion of my student-teaching. I also hold a K-12 English/Language Arts endorsement. After completing my first year of teaching, I earned my master's degree in June 2022. My thesis was on teaching students how to avoid and identify run-on sentences. During my time in Georgia, I was recruited and paid to author a young adult book chronicling the true experience of a top college baseball pitching prospect - drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies - which would be titled "Brushed Back: The Trevor Bullock Story." The book is available through Amazon. In the last few years of my newspaper career, I covered education and conducted investigative journalism. Some of the stories I covered included- Cobb County School Board being questioned by the Georgia state attorney general, who alleged four board members used personal email accounts to possibly conduct official business. See link below- Dougherty County School District's questionable hiring of a new superintendent. See link below- Played a role in Georgia legislature requiring public school districts to verify degree status on certified staff after a high school teacher faked his college graduation and military service to gain employment. The teacher was later arrested for attempting to send a sex-text to a female high school basketball player but the text was intercepted by the player's coach. See two different links below- Dougherty County School District's teacher test cheating scandal that involved a nationally publicized state investigation.
