Bakersfield California has the most polluted air in the United States of America according to Polluted air is just one of the many modern day issues we run into today as the world has progressed further to places we’ve never been before while unfortunately damaging our planet along the way. However, Bakersfield also happens to be the place where I call home. Growing up in Bakersfield you would find me hunched over my Legos for hours building whatever my mind could come up with. Sitting for hours on end, meticulously placing pieces of a new set I got with precision and determination on my mind. Legos weren’t the only thing that occupied my attention. I would also find myself playing a ton of video games as a kid which always pushed me to think outside the box of how to solve problems. I never had any problems with directions growing up as I followed them meticulously as a child building Lego sets. These things gave me the foundation for a successful future in academics. In school I enjoyed math and found myself doing well in my classes. With my creative mind and my love for mathematics I decided to go to Bakersfield Community College in the fall of 2019 for engineering. I loved all my engineering courses, but didn’t know what I wanted to do in the field of engineering. There was one thing I did know for sure, I loved to solve problems. I then decided to solve a problem that was very close to my heart growing up in Bakersfield, air pollution and climate change. This led me to further pursue my education in engineering. I would then transfer to Oregon State University in the fall of 2022 with a major in Mechanical Engineering aimed to help with climate change. One of the reasons I had chosen Oregon State University was the school has many programs aimed at a better future. This to me was the perfect place to further my education. Creating and building something was always at the very foundation of my childhood. Whether it be with Legos or in a game of Minecraft with friends I would constantly be creating. However, now it is time for me to garner the tools to help create something to help the world.
