Background
About Ethan McCormick
I have studied computer science for the past three years at Washington University in St. Louis, and have been working on honing my CS skillset through my classes and extracurriculars. A successful software engineer requires strong analytical skills, flexibility, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively. My professional and educational experiences have well equipped me with those skills. This summer, I returned as a software engineering intern at ProjectTeam Inc, a project management software company based in Chantilly, Virginia. I work primarily with the front-end development team, aiding them in the migration process from legacy Angular to Angular 2. I am currently working on transitioning their testing framework from Jasmine to Jest, as well as UI bug fixes for their upcoming software release. I look forward to continuing working on new site functionality as the summer progresses. As for last summer at ProjectTeam, I worked as a software engineering and quality assurance intern. I was paired with the testing team and worked personally with the head of quality assurance to develop new testing stories. Later in the summer, I was tasked with researching automated testing applications in order to improve the testing phases of our development cycle. I believe that my experience with agile methodology, as well as innovating on a large application, allows me to quickly contribute. Aside from my professional experience, studying at WashU has offered many opportunities to hone my development skills through extracurriculars. I was awarded the position of Director of Web Development at Armour Magazine, WashU’s premier art and style publication. I worked with a small team of developers in overhauling the magazine’s current web presence, using a tech stack of React and Node to optimize the browsing experience. We implemented various new functions, like an editorial archive, and improved functionality across mobile devices. Currently, we are working on incorporating the Amazon S3 database into the application to store publications. These full stack development tools, as well as an understanding of responsive web design, will be extremely useful. In my freshman year, I worked with the Great Rivers Greenway Foundation to create an interactive game highlighting the many challenges of building a greenway path. This was an excellent way to experience developing for a professional organization. I am proficient in Java, Python, C++, TypeScript, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I am fluent in French.
