About Ethan Reitz

I grew up in the wilderness of northern British Columbia in the Stikine River valley, in Tahltan First Nation territory, 21 km. west of Telegraph Creek. My upbringing has influenced my interest in human rights and the environment, developed through my childhood experience with the Residents for a Free Flowing Stikine in their fight against the proposed hydroelectric project on the Stikine river. The arc of my life so far has brought me very far from my roots, to theatre school in Toronto and Edmonton, to London where I worked, among other things, as a bartender and a motorcycle courier, to India and Nepal where I trekked in the Himalayas, saw and experienced the raw energy of India, became utterly ill, the Caribbean where I sailed for a month with friends, to Germany where I have lived and learned to speak the language and worked in the animation and visual effects industry and to Pune, India where I used my varied and extensive experience to teach and inspire animation students to develop a strong technical basis as digital artists and tell honest stories that both emotionally move an audience and get them thinking. Since early 2022 I've made Montreal my home. When I'm not animating I'm running, writing and renovating.
