About Ethan Schmitt

Politics and political engagement have always been an essential part of my story. As a young person, I was fascinated with the Presidents of the United States and felt compelled to learn the names of each and facts about them. This was before I entered the first grade. I have always marveled at the power of the decisions made at the seat of our government — the power to seize control over factors that directly impact the well-being of others. My journey with politics evolved over the years: I wrote letters to the editor about partisan tensions in middle school, witnessed an essay I had written on gun reform get published into the Congressional Record in high school, and currently work to foster student civic engagement and bolster my college community’s commitment to democracy. In my academics, these interests led me to declare political science as my major. My interest in the systems and structures that underpin world happenings has traced my path from the outset. My focus is to apply my knowledge and experience to discover innovative and creative ways to change people’s lives for the better by exercising the levers of government. Whether I will achieve this result indirectly, through political research, or directly, through activities like voter registration, campaign involvement, social work, or holding public office, is not of premier importance. So long as I can leave the world and those around me better off than when I arrived, I will be fulfilled.
