Background

About Ethan Zagore

As an administrator and consultant with nearly 20 years of work history in education and diversity, my leadership experience includes serving in two executive roles at two public community colleges and director-level positions at two private academically elite four-year institutions, two nonprofit organizations, and a historically black college (adjunct professor at two institutions). Additionally, I have served as a consultant for eight years, completing projects for multiple institutions and organizations. As the Senior Director of Academic & Career Pathways at Gary Comer Youth Center (GCYC), I led efforts serving over 500+ first-generation and low-income junior high and high school students in two federally funded TRiO programs, Upward Bound and Talent Search. As a grant writing consultant, I utilized my expertise while serving as the Executive Director of Grant Development and Compliance at Malcolm X College, crafting funded grant proposals while managing a team of grant directors. As the Vice Chancellor of Student Success at Ivy Tech Community College (South Bend/Elkhart campus), I led retention efforts and provided leadership for five areas/departments: Academic Advising, Disability Student Services, Ivy Cares (wrap-around services), Student Life and New Student Orientation. Outside of providing oversight, my daily duties included creating major-specific communication strategies alongside program chairs, identifying and assisting students at risk of dropping out due to financial, academic, personal, and/or pandemic-related issues, and developing methods to connect services to scholars faster while maintaining quality. As the Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) at the University of Chicago, I led a unit that developed a comprehensive portfolio of programming related to racial and ethnic identity for all UChicago students. Advocating for racially underrepresented students, aiding multi-ethnic student organizations, fostering intercultural engagement on-campus, and raising the critical consciousness among campus community members were vital components of OMSA’s success. I served as the Director of TRiO Programs at the University of Notre Dame for nearly four years, managing a departmental budget of over $900K, and teaching as an adjunct instructor. Responsibilities included providing oversight of two U.S. Department of Education-sponsored TRiO college access programs, Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound, providing services to over first-generation/low-income pre-college students from the South Bend area.
