About Etienne Barrier

I was born on a tiny island in the Pacific ocean called Tahiti. In 2009, I moved to Estonia and co-founded a family. I am still living in Tallinn. Career-wise, I have done several things in my life: KYC in online payments, ran a travel business on the side for almost a decade, bachelor in IT and now IT engineer. The first one was to perform KYC procedures and draw contracts for online merchants who wanted to use our bank-card payment solutions. I learned to evaluate a business based on many aspects as well as maintaining relations with customers. I took initiatives to standardize our ways of working and became team lead. I quit in 2015 to study IT. The second big piece of my life (concurrent to the one above) was to co-found a travel agency company with my wife. My role was to manage administrative tasks: keeping the travelers lists accurate, planning the information emails, being in contact with the travelers, building and maintaining our website and being the group leader at our trips (to Finland, Russia and Estonia). My main achievements were to successfully lead thousands of travelers to our destinations and together with a software development company, we built a custom booking system tailored to our needs. This custom system greatly reduced manual work and allowed us to grow our business without the need to hire more people for administrative tasks. Unfortunately, COVID put an end to this adventure. IT is the third (ongoing) phase of my professional life. It started in 2018, after finishing my bachelor degree in Cyber-Security. I worked in the gambling industry integrating new customers into our software. I managed to automate most of my team's work (cutting the original time by 3 to 4) and became team lead. In 2024, I got the opportunity to join Pipedrive as an Infrastructure Engineer and I took it. Now I am dealing with stuff like Terraform, AWS, K8S, GCP, Ansible, Emails and many other things. I am learning a lot of things and I love it. Here are the traits that, in my opinion, define me best- I am open-minded: my vision of the world is just one of an infinity, and I am interested in discovering new ones - I value fairness, honesty and freedom - I care that my work is done well and that people are satisfied with it - I write down a lot of things not to forget them, documentation is important - I like to help people, especially if it is giving them the fishing rod rather than the fish - I enjoy science, critical thinking, philosophy and politics - I play padel
