About Euan Cairns

As a graduate researcher at University of North Texas, I apply my skills and knowledge in materials engineering to conduct novel research on tribological behavior of transition metal dichalcogenides. I collaborate with a team of experts to design, execute, and analyze experiments using various techniques and tools, such as scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. I also contribute to the dissemination of our findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals, such as Tribology International, where I co-authored a paper on the friction reduction of TMD spray coatings in low-viscosity hydrocarbon environments. I am pursuing my Ph.D. in Materials Engineering at the University of North Texas, where I have gained a broad and deep understanding of ceramics, metallurgy, polymers, and electronic materials. I am passionate about learning new skills and concepts that make me a more effective scientist and worker, and I enjoy being challenged to work harder and smarter at everything I do. My goal is to find a career that requires deep work in a field that interests me, and where I can work for an organization that values its employees and has hard-to-reach goals and shared values. Outside of my academic and professional pursuits, I love nature, reading, podcasts, climbing, and exploring new areas of science and knowledge.
