About Eugene Chen

My passion is making products that are both useful and beautiful. With 15+ years of leadership and creativity in all aspects of product design, research and strategy, I'm proud to have launched products used by millions of happy users. I've had the opportunity to lead critical UX efforts in all my posts. At Dolby, I'm leveraging my passion for music and leading the great audio brand to define its position in the world of consumer music recording. I conducted formative user research and product discovery and lead a team of product designers. While at Trulia, I helped refine the company's vision to be the industry leader in neighborhood information. At Shutterfly, I worked across our entire consumer e-commerce experience, driving breakthroughs in our flagship products, earning lots of customer love and ultimately helping us win in our category. I oversaw design teams responsible for Shutterfly's core personalization path and our photo cloud strategy. As head of Eugene Chen Design, I’m an independent consultant on UX strategy and design for both early-stage startups and industry leaders such as Samsung, BMW, eBay and Orbitz. Previously, I was Director of Design at AM+A, a pioneering user-interface think tank. There I managed and mentored our staff of 16 designers while leading the design for critical projects. During this period, I doubled the size of our design staff in California and New York and grew the firm by evolving its design methods and expanding its service offerings. I wrote and spoke internationally on the principles, methods and philosophy of interaction design. When not designing, I'm an active musician. I play jazz, DJ and produce electronic music. Cheers!
