5/2013~Present, Senior Performance Research Engineer, Michelin North America, Greenville, USA Responsible for Tool/method development of next-generation tribology test for both regular and irregular wear of tire tread materials in North America; it includes FEA simulation, analytical model, tribometer automation with Python /Arduino /Labview, irregular wear metrics research, and mentoring interns, etc; Started in 2021 to working on green rubber tools/methods, e.g. thermal and CFD simulations for green rubber extrusion, and responsible for green tackiness test and training, etc; Responsible for both virtual wear design tool in Matlab and lab wear test for tread materials, and training of wear for material design in North America; Wear performance simulation of heavy truck tires by taking into account of all layers affecting tire wear, such as vehicle, usage, tire, tread material, etc, with Python, TruckSim, and SQL; Improved the in-house numerical model of multi-scale rubber ground contact from 2-scale to 5scale contact in Matlab; Literature review of tire scaling endurance mechanism, developed its metrics for material designs and lab test for tread material, and developed FEA model to optimize tread sculpture designs for scaling endurance by taking into account of fatigue caused crack initiation / propagation / rotation and formation of anisotropic layer structures; Understood/explained new material techno’s mechanism on wear and traction performance with FEA modeling, virtual design tool, and experiments. 10/2008~5/2013, Senior FEA analyst, Michelin North America, Greenville, USA Used in-house FEA software, Abaqus with material subroutine, and ANSYS ICEM 3D meshing for finite element simulations of tire performance such as wear, DOT139 endurance, rolling resistance, traction, etc; Improvement of efficiency, accuracy, and robustness of finite element analysis.
