Performing power system analysis including the following: • Voltage drop calculations based on cable sizes and lengths estimated from site surveys or drawings and demand calculations. Calculations performed in order to ensure that the selected cables comply with the percentage voltage drops as required by the code. • Short circuit studies based on collected information from site surveys or design drawings. The studies are performed to ensure that equipment kA ratings are exceeding the available fault currents. • Protective device coordination. Providing recommended settings for new or existing circuit breakers and relays. Identifying miscoordination problems in the system and providing corrective actions. • Performing arc flash studies to determine arc flash levels at all locations where work is performed on live equipment. This includes calculations for the required protective clothing and the safe working distances when working on live electrical equipment. Mitigation of excessive arc flash levels. Power quality modeling which includes: • Performing voltage and current harmonic distortion calculations created by non-linear loads connected on the system. • Transformer K-factor and harmonic heat loss modeling. Adjusting transformer load rating to prevent overheating and subsequent insulation failure. Ground grid design. Review of shop drawings for accuracy and co-ordination aspects. Site surveys of existing electrical distributions. Collection of electrical equipment data such as transformers, distributions, protective relays, cables, etc. for conducting short circuit, protective device coordination and arc flash studies. Preparing distribution single line diagrams. Preparing electrical drawings including lighting, power, telecommunication, public address system, fire alarm and security systems using the latest version of Autocad. Design support at all stages of the design process.
