About Eva Caldera

Eva Caldera currently serves as Chief Counsel to Commissioner Mary Boyle at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, where she provides policy and legal advice, contributing to leadership and decision-making at an essential federal agency charged with protecting the public from harmful consumer products and promoting product safety. She has worked in various roles in law, higher education, public service and non-profit management, and has found ways throughout her life and career to contribute to the arts and the humanities, from her current service on the board of the Federation of State Humanities Councils, to her appointment at the National Endowment for the Humanities during the administration of President Obama, to her board service for the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. While Chief Operating Officer/Associate Secretary of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, she managed and modernized the central dimensions of the Society's operations (including strategic planning, programs, development, IT, finance and budget) and advanced the mission of the society as an advocate for the liberal arts and sciences in higher education. Immediately before joining ΦBK, Eva served in the Obama Administration as Assistant Chair for Partnership and Strategic Initiatives at the National Endowment for the Humanities. She oversaw a number of signature NEH initiatives, including Bridging Cultures and The Common Good: Humanities in the Public Square. Eva Caldera earned her bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Harvard College, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa with Honors, then earned a JD degree with Honors from Harvard Law School. Earlier in her career, she practiced law in Washington, DC, and Los Angeles, then went on to become a Research Professor of Law at the University of New Mexico School of Law, where she combined teaching, research, and practice as medical ethics coordinator for the university hospital and medical school, before joining NEH in 2009.
