Background
About Eva Gallagher
Experienced in curriculum development with innovative instructional activities for online and in person contexts Efficient organization and collaboration with colleagues and students on various projects, curricula, field trips, events and conferences Effective leadership by inspiring trust through consistency, transparency and carefully listening to stakeholders’ needs While pursuing a Master’s degree at McGill University in Second Language Education, I loved learning about fostering minority language use and mother tongue maintenance as well as improving pedagogy for second language teaching. This passion developed while working with Spanish-speaking students in my hometown in California. At Roseland University Prep High School, I enjoyed teaching various levels of Spanish, including classes for developing advanced literacy skills for students who primarily use Spanish at home. It was a great privilege to connect with these students and encourage them to expand their language abilities and celebrate their heritage and culture. With a colleague, I organized student groups to teach Spanish in elementary schools and supported students as they promoted undocumented immigrants’ rights. Prior to teaching, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish at Gonzaga University while completing two teacher certifications in four years. I also studied abroad in Mexico and Spain, which pushed my Spanish to the next level and provided me with the necessary language skills to teach heritage language speakers. I love traveling and learning about other cultures and currently enjoy exploring Montreal and learning from my students in the Francization program. These immigrant adults learning French come from all over the world and I am honored to be part of their integration into Quebec’s society.
