About Eva Maire

In 2018 I completed a PhD at the interface between ecology and social science at the University of Montpellier (MARBEC, France) and James Cook University (ARC Centre of Excellence of Coral Reefs Studies, Australia). During my PhD, I developed new metrics of accessibility that account for seascape heterogeneity to better assess human impacts on coral reefs and, assessed the importance of coral reef accessibility, in interaction with their management, to explain variations of fish biomass. In May 2019, after a 1-year lecturer position in ecology and statistics at the University of Montpellier, I joined the Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC), UK - one of the world’s largest and highest rated multidisciplinary centres of environmental research. I nearly spent 5 years at LEC, first as a postdoc and then as an Leverhulme Trust Early Career Research Fellow. In 2024, I joined the French Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) as a permanent researcher and I am currently based in Montpellier, France. My current research focuses on the contribution small-scale fisheries can make to human health with a focus on understanding how climate change impacts food and nutrition security in the tropics. I grew up in a small Mediterranean town in the South of France. I am a former competitive swimmer, a sea (and seafood) lover, and a professional scuba diver.
