About Evalena Friedman

Evalena Friedman is a Chicago-based playwright, educator, director, poet, and storyteller. She graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern University, where she received her BA in Theatre and Elementary Education. While in college, she helped launch the first ever new play initiative on campus, producing dozens of student playwrights each year, as well as interning and student teaching in local Boston-area schools. As a playwright and director, she has had the pleasure of working with Prop Thtr, Curious Theatre Branch, Strawdog Theatre Company, Chicago Dramatists, Dandelion Theatre, NoMads Art Collective, Lyric Stage Company of Boston, Silver Masque Theatre Company, and the Great Plains Theatre Conference. She has also performed original stories at various venues around Chicago with the live lit series You’re Being Ridiculous, including Steppenwolf Theatre as part of their LookOut series. Evalena is proud to be a teaching artist with Lifeline Theatre, where she has taught drama residencies in Chicago Public Schools for the past two years. She is also a literary associate at A Red Orchid Theatre and a Poetry Ambassador at the Poetry Foundation. Evalena’s poems were recently published by Sword & Kettle Press, and her plays are available for download on the National New Play Network’s New Play Exchange.
