Background

About Evan Bartle

I am a Masters student studying Electrical Engineering at NC State University. I graduated this past year from the joint program of Biomedical Engineering at NC State University and University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Throughout my undergraduate career I always gravitated towards the more electrical focused side of biomedical engineering as I enjoyed designing embedded systems and creating programs in C or Java.During my time at NC State, I am most proud of my research involvement and Senior Design Project. Regarding research, I started in the Hand Rehabilitation lab as a volunteer my Junior year, and after 6 months of hard work, meeting deadlines, and volunteering in the lab, the faculty advisor recommended me for a research stipend. As a paid researcher within the lab, I partnered with a doctoral student to design a rehabilitation training program aimed at restoring hand function in stroke survivors. For my Senior Design project, my group designed, prototyped, built, and tested a device aimed at removing biofilms from reusable surgical instruments. Our group ultimately placed first at the Senior Design Showcase, and were awarded $10K to further advance our idea. Throughout my formal education I have been lucky enough to hold multiple internships offering insight to various aspects of industry. For the past two summers I have interned at bioMerieux in their engineering division as an Automation and Process Engineering Intern. During my time in Automation, I interacted with Engineers to identify unmet needs and metrics in the current manufacturing dashboards, and designed and created two new alternatives to the existing dashboards which offered a more aesthetic, interactive, detailed, and engineering focused alternative. As a Process Engineering intern, I observed Senior Process Engineers with site acceptance tests, helped write job aids and troubleshooting guides for the packaging line, and aided with new equipment installation and debugging on the line. Additionally, I performed a project with the Continuous Improvement team focused on productivity optimization within the Chemical Weighing department.
