About Evan Boyle

As principal investigator on the Urban Climate Collab project (2025-2029), this work presents an opportunity to build upon the established relationship between University College Cork & Cork City Council - Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí and experiment with methods of creating climate action solutions with different people across the city. The project offers an important opportunity for climate action objectives to be leveraged locally to improve wellbeing and increase civic participation. Previous research has investigated deliberative engagement processes for energy grid system change both in Ireland and Internationally, transdisciplinary approaches to sustainability, and action-orientated research on climate action through the Dingle Peninsula 2030 project. I am a member of the Sociological Association of Ireland, a working group leader on the COST Action SHiFT, and act as a commissioner on the Just Transition Commission of Ireland. My forthcoming book, Engaging communities in climate action : A transdisciplinary approach, co-authored with Dr. Connor McGookin will be published by Springer Nature in August 2025. Recent work has featured in the journals Energy Research & Social Science, Energy Policy, Local Environment, and Theory, Cultural, Society.
