About Evan Johnston

Hello, I'm Evan! Proud dad, technology nerd, and federal public servant with the world's most interesting experience! So what have I done? I have had the opportunity to support and advance a broad range federal and provincial initiatives related to cyber security, physicsl security and emergency management. Some projects I'm proud to have worked on include: Participated as the Lead Organizational Controller for the Government Operations Centre during national level emergency and consequence managment exercises Led on the development of exercises contents related to critical infrastructure, enterprise security and cyber security in support of Canada's largest national CI focused exercise since the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, Supported the development and led implementation of an organizational security strategy to support the Ontario Ministry of Transportation's return to compliance under the OPS Physical Security Operating Policy, Tracked the initial needs and issues of over 150 Canadian Critical Infrastructure entities to report to senior government officials in response to the COVID-19 pandemic; Developed, implemented and managed the client-engagement of virtualized assessment tools related to key security themes, including cybersecurity and insider risk; And as a result? In 2020, I received a Departmental Award for Collaboration and Partnerships for my contributions Public Safety Canada's virtual private sector engagement with critical and essential services throughout the onset of COVID-19. In 2021, I received a second Departmental Award for Creativity and Innovation, for my contributions to the Critical Infrastructure Sprint Projects, which intended to recommend progressive changes to internal system and service delivery. In 2024, I was awarded an Exercise Cy-Phy Challenge Coin by the Associate Deputy Minister of the National and Cyber Security Branch of Public Safety Canada for my initial contribution to exercise design and later participation in Exercise Cy-Phy. So now what? I've been lucky to work on opportunities aimed at improving our society and the systems we employ, and I plan on maintaining this trend - I'm looking forward to the future, whatever it may bring!
