About Evander Chatara

Working as a receptionist in a nursing home gave me a good start in working life as it taught me how to deal with people. The people I dealt with here were from very different walks of life, this gave me a very diverse understanding on how important people skills are in the workplace. I also became very competent speaking on the phone, I often had to deal with very difficult situations in which I had to make a decision in a matter of minutes with no room for error. I worked here for two years and everyday I worked I was dealt a new situation which I responded to accordingly. I spent a year studying in Canada at the University of Prince Edward Island, this was my first time living away from home and I had to adapt to all the challenges. I responded well and enjoyed my time there learning valuable skills in the process, I became a lot more culturally aware when I was here because for me, up until I lived in Canada I never knew how different a society could be. I always thought that culture was defined by mainly people speaking different languages but I soon came to realise that even the English language spoken in Canada could be considered a different challenge. Once again, I grew and responded to the challenge.
