WHAT DOES WORKING AT DAIRY QUEEN HAVE TO DO WITH A CAREER IN RADIO? MORE THAN YOU THINK. While I’m not going to list every single lesson (let’s just say you couldn’t learn them all from reading a book) I’ll list my TOP 3.#1 It was my first job and it taught me the value of money (making, managing and saving it) and the feeling of satisfaction that comes with earning it.#2 Great customer service is a life skill that will serve me in everything that I do (having the patience to ensure a happy outcome for the customer.) Even people buying ice-cream can have bad days.#3 Being able to commit to something and be counted on by others is something to be proud of. I worked for the same employer throughout high school and I learned to be consistent and flexible; but mostly, I learned the importance of “showing up.” My radio experience at Algonquin College in the Radio Broadcast program and my part-time work with Hot 89.9 Street Team has given me the skills and initial experience to launch into my career with both confidence and humility. In my first year, I won the Best Spot (Creative) Award and was named the Top First Year student. My career aspirations lie in creative and production as well as on-air. I am currently looking for my first professional job. I’m also a volunteer, a community builder, a lover of both the arts and sciences. I sing, play instruments, engage in all visual arts AND love chemistry, science fairs and the Natural Planet. Finally, I’m a quick learner. I’m curious. I’m creative. I’m kind. And, I’m looking for my next adventure in my next home. I’m actively starting to build my network and am open to connection requests (and job opportunities me about my D&D Podcast.
