About Ewan Smart

Hi there, I’m Ewan! I worked in consumer telecommunications for 3 years whilst studying towards my degree in Cyber security and Networks. Combining my part time job from a consumer point of view with my university experience in Routing, Switching, Software defined networks and ethical hacking has provided me with a vital insight to how technology effects everyone. I left my role within consumer telecoms to work for BT networks for an industrial placement year which I completed in July 2023. Within my placement, I worked between two teams and two main projects. Firstly, wholesale mobile connect (WMC) which provides the mobile back haul connections, where I developed a testing solution for better efficiency in monitoring the performance of these wholesale offerings. Secondly, I was responsible for the commissioning virtual servers for use within BT’s data centres to provide a platform for network management ensuring compliance with the Telecomms security act. I aspire in the future to define the cyber security landscape, doing so by working tirelessly with a team of like minded people to change the landscape from an attackers world to a defenders world. In my free time, you can find me fundraising for causes close to my heart whilst also spending time with loved ones. My key strengths include, but are not limited to; stakeholder management, methodical working to ensure strict timescales are met whilst adhering to SLAs. Ensuring work is relevant and meaningful and also operational awareness to ensure any work done has minimal negative impact with maximum positive impact. After my placement, I look to further hone in on my existing skills and develop my Cyber skills to allow me to fulfil my aspirations.
