About Fahad Benthani

I am a scientist at NYU Langone Health, where I work to unravel the complexities of cellular senescence, innate immunity, and tumor evolution. My research focuses on understanding how these processes influence aging, cancer progression, and resistance to therapies, with a particular emphasis on mechanisms of endogenous APOBEC enzyme instigation in cancer and its downstream effects. With over 16 years of experience in cell and molecular biology, oncology, and stem cell research, I have cultivated expertise in multi-omic methodologies, advanced microscopy, CRISPR-based gene editing, and animal models. I hold a PhD in Medicine from UNSW and an MSc in Oncology and Cancer Biology from University College London. At NYU, my mission is to uncover novel pathways and mechanisms driving cancer biology, with a focus on breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers. Recently, my research has expanded to explore the stochastic nature of gene expression bursts and their impact on DNA mutagenesis and neoantigen generation, using cutting-edge live-cell imaging and sequencing technologies. I am passionate about translating these discoveries into actionable insights for cancer therapeutics. I excel in research management, team leadership, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. I disseminate my findings through high-impact publications, conferences, and symposiums, and I am committed to fostering innovation and driving meaningful impact in the scientific community and beyond.
